| Easter Tournament
Required
Dear Dave, I'm trying to organise a club tour for our university teams. Two years ago
we spent five days in Denmark at the Rodovre Easter Volley Tournament, something I would like to highly recommend to anyone planning a trip over
Easter. This year we want to go somewhere else in Europe, but I'm having trouble finding tournaments in Europe during our holiday period, i.e. 29
March - 27 April. I'd love to hear from anyone who has ideas/suggestions/contacts for any type of tournament anywhere in Europe! |

| The Indesit European Champions League From December, Eurosport will broadcast a weekly 30-minute programme showcasing all the top action from the most prestigious club tournament featuring the 'crème de la crème' of European Volleyball.
Eurosport will provide viewers with comprehensive action throughout the group
stages until January, where the best eight men's and women's teams will qualify
for the quarterfinals in February. The winners of the quarterfinals will then
earn a ticket for the 'Final Four' in March 2003.
In the women's tournament the real battle looks to be between the eastern
European 'polarised clubs', formed entirely from National squad players, and
the multi-national teams which characterise Italian and Spanish women's volleyball. |

Wessex Area Mini Volleyball Tournament Over 200 players - 72 teams from 23 Schools - 150 games in two hours. That was the Wessex Area Mini Volleyball Tournament played on a Thursday evening at Poole Sports Centre. It was probably the largest competition of its kind held in this country beating the 51 teams in the Wessex Championships held in June. Yet again the event was a great success thanks to the organisers who were the PDVA and Wessex Volleyball Club, the teachers, the parents and of course the players. Not only do the children get the chance to play matches against other schools in a mixed non contact exciting game but they also referee and score other pool matches. The Under 13 Mini Volley Cup looked as it if would be closely matched and so it proved. Unluckiest School was probably Broadstone Middle who tied on match points at the top of two of the pools only to lose on a count back of game points. The two teams who benefited were Poole Grammar and Parkstone Grammar who both went through and then won their semi finals. The former against Poole High 12-10 and the latter against Ferndown Middle 18-12. The boys from Poole Grammar beat Parkstone 21-6 in a high quality Final. The teams that lost out in the Under 13 Catch and Volley quarter finals were Twynham 3, Allenbourn 2 Talbot Heath and Grange 3. The semi final results saw Grange 5 beating Broadstone Middle 5 by 15 - 8 and Grange 4 beating Twynham 2 by 5-2 to set up an all Grange final. Grange 5 won that 12-9 to take the Cup. The most experienced team in the Under 12 Mini Volley Cup were Haymoor and they started as favourites. Oakdale and Branksome Heath put on a good fight before finishing in 3rd and 4th so it was left to Allenbourn 5 to try to beat them in the final. With an excellent effort they pushed Haymoor hard by eventually went down by 20 - 15 to the Champions. The Under 12 Catch and Volley competition received the most entries, with a lot of teams playing in their first matches. Many of the pool matches were very close with teams winning by just one point. Christchurch Jr narrowly missed out on a quarter final place on count back. In the quarters Ashley beat Upton 9-6, St Aldhelms beat Alderney by the same score and St Michael's, Colehill 1 beat Ashley 4 by 11-6 while St Michael's 3 scrapped through by 9-8 against Twynham 5. St Michael's had a comfortable semi final win but Ashley were delighted to hear the final whistle at 8-7 ahead against St Aldhelm's. This final was the most exciting of the evening. At time the two teams were locked at 6 points all. Playing the first to 3 in extra time, St Michael's took the first point and although Ashley fought hard they couldn't stop the Colehill school winning the next two to take the Cup. | AirCAT, Volleyball
Tutor - rsv
Does anyone have any experience with the AirCAT, Volleyball Tutor, SportsAttack, or similar machines that purportedly simulate serves, sets, spikes, etc.? Any recommendations? Thanks in advance for any information. Saw the Aircat in a demo booth at nationals in Dallas last year. It looks pretty cool. The demo was a "setting" demo and it worked quite
nicely. I'd be curious about the serving abilities. I'm not sure how much heat it can put on the ball in comparison to other devices. |

FIVB AWARDS - fivb
Marcos Milinkovic, the most outstanding player of the 2002 World Championship in Argentina was on Monday presented with a giant cheque for $200,000 at the Swiss headquarters of International Volleyball Federation (FIVB).
Milinkovic was the only player of the current season to be twice named for FIVB Excellence Awards, which carry rewards of $100,000 each. He was named "Most Valuable Player" at the World Championship tournament, as well as being Top Scorer for the event. Cash awards offered to players in 2002 by the Federation International de Volleyball amount to $US1.6 million dollars, making it one of the richest handouts for individual players in team sports in the world, senior officials of the Federation said. | Scottish youth volleyball - BP 'Challenge to Youth' tournament
- rsv The curtain came down in style on the Forth Valley volleyball scene as the cream of the country's bright young volleyball talent battled it out for honours in the BP 'Challenge to Youth' championships at Grangemouth. The proximity of this year's event, the 19th in the annual series of events staged by Falkirk VC in conjunction with BP Oil Grangemouth, and a general increase in the number of youth events in the national calendar meant that several of the pre-tournament favorites were missing this time around. However this left the way open for new names to make their mark on the championship. A smaller than expected entry in the girls events led organisers to merge the Under 16 and Under 19 sections into one larger competition, and Stirling 's Wallace HS, under the direction of former national Junior team captain Gary Cordiner, showed the strength in the depth of their squad by qualifying three of their teams for the championship phase after the morning sections. Play at this level was close and exciting throughout the day, and incredibly it was one of the sides promoted from the Under 16 section, Wallace Reivers, in their first-ever competitive outing, who emerged as the cream of the crop, holding off the challenge of National Junior League champions East Lothian Falcons. The Girls Plate was successfully defended by Peebles Penguins. The boys competition was staged as normal at both Under 16 and Under 19 age-groups. After 20 rounds of matches in the lower age-group, there was a three-way tie for the Cadet title, and a points-difference count back had Falkirk Lions holding off the challenge of both Wallace Bucks and Peebles Predators, due in no small measure to an excellent morning session from the local lads. As always, the Under 19 boys event was the most powerful on display, and this one went to the wire, with East Lothian Ravens overcoming the challenge of Peebles Pirates in the last match of the day to take the title and the trophy back to their Meadowmill base for the first time. Meanwhile, the Plate event was dominated by Lanarkshire teams , Dalziel Dynamo sneaking past clubmates Dalziel Rockets in the last phase to claim the silverware. The day was clearly not long enough though for championship debutants Auchterarder. After playing 24 matches in seven hours, the Perthshire boys rushed off to fulfill an evening fixture in the Perth and Kinross District League. Badgerstripe badgerstripe@blueyonder.co.uk |

2003 World Beach Tour
The 2003 season will be a landmark one for this new Olympic Discipline. Events from January 1, 2003 and up to July 11, 2004 count towards the Olympic Qualification process and a decision concerning the Olympic seeding system will be taken before the first event.
"This will be a key season in the history of our sport's development looking forward to the Athens Olympics," said Angelo Squeo, FIVB Beach Volleyball Coordinator, adding that planned events in Greece would serve as valuable test events for the Olympics.
June 2003 (dates to be announced): Men's and women's events in Switzerland and Germany. Other events under negotiation are in Australia, Austria, China, Croatia, Czech Republic, Canada, France, Hong Kong, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Portugal (women's event), Sweden and Spain. In other business, the FIVB offered their support to the delegation from Indonesia in the face of the recent terrorist attack and confirmed that they would stand by the event scheduled in that country for the 2003 season. Another landmark decision by the World Council was to allow women who chose to take maternity leave from their professional sport the possibility of retaining 75% of their points earned within one year of the birth of their baby, and 50% of the points earned within two years of the birth of their baby. FIVB Beach Volleyball players pay equal prize money for men and women in their official competitions. |
