Romford Volleyball Club
Hi Dave, No doubt you would have read about this incident at Poole last year, we would all be grateful if you could include this into one of your newsletters. Forgive me if you've seen this before - I
believe its' doing the rounds. For those unaware, last year 3 friends were
killed in a road traffic accident in Poole, Dorset while attending a volleyball
tournament. The third party, who had been drinking, was speeding and was on the
mobile phone just seconds before the impact, escaped with a fine and points on
his license and a 5 year ban. A petition is doing the rounds and I'd be very
grateful if you could just give it a once over and sign it. Perhaps forward it
to your place of work or social circle and try to get more support or send this
on to other friends who may be equally sympathetic. The link will give you the

Cambridge win Division II NVL |
|
Cambridge's senior men's team have just completed a remarkable couple of seasons, with promotion two years running meaning that Cambridge joins the top 10 teams in England for the 2004/5 season. The seed's of Cambridge's success were sown 3 years ago when player Phil Game stepped in mid-season to replace a departing coach, and team secretary Jean Jacquet began working to entice good players from the region into the team. Succeeding in attracting players, and developing existing Cambridge talent, this approach continued once the team reached Div II, where they were able to seek out and attract more great players to strengthen the squad. |
|
|
The season has seen the usual share of ups and downs, with too-close-for-comfort games against lower level teams matched by great performances against strong opposition. Losing one tough five-set game mid-season against Guildford served to strengthen the teams resolve and set up a fantastic end-of-season return match between the two teams. By this time, Guildford were 2nd to Cambridge's first place, with Cambridge requiring just two sets for the title. The match lived up to expectations, and produced a classic encounter which was too close to call for most of the game. The high standard of play was matched by great sportsmanship from both teams, and Cambridge eventually edged out their opponents in a 3-2 victory. |
|
|
The team have already served notice on the Div I teams, taking 2nd placed
Warwick Riga to five sets in a cup quarter final, and they are looking
forward to taking on the best in the country next year. Any players out
there looking for a Div I club in the East of England should contact the
team via the Cambridge website.
Teams occasionally climb divisions fast when a few good players get together and go for it over a few years, only to fade away once the original group achieves their aims. Cambridge is different; in the time the men's team has been climbing the rankings, the club has grown from 50 members to over 100, with an active beginners section and teams at all levels. We look forward to more success in years to come..... |
