NEWS ITEMS
Replacement Beach Net Bags

If your regular beach net bag has given up or is just not big enough anymore, once you have added extra pegs, posts, rope lines and anteandnas etc, then you may be looking for a replacement.

I now have a supplier who is currently making replacement volleyball beach net zip bags to order, they are excellent and slightly larger than your regular bag, so you don't have to struggle packing everything in. They don't have mesh ends or full length shoulder strapes but you can slip the carry handles over your shoulder if required. They come in Blue, Green and Dark Red.

If anyone is interested, please contact me at Dave.Reece@volleyballnewsletter.com

Beach Volleyball Comes to Newry

Newry and Mourne District Council for the first time ever are hosting Beach Volleyball. A new initiative which, if takes off could feature on the Councils summer scheme programme for next year.

This unique opportunity is part of the “Playing for Peace” Project, which is financially supported by the European Union, Peace and Reconciliation Programme and administered through the Local Strategy Partnership.

Playing for Peace is a programme designed to address the issues of isolation, engagement, and leadership and cross community activity among young people in Newry and Mourne through the medium of sport.

The Mayor of Newry and Mourne District Council Cllr Michael Cole stated, “ Beach Volleyball is a fantastic sport to bring to the area. We have a beautiful natural resource at Cranfield which is primarily used for water based activities and I think that it is a brilliant idea that new and innovative activities are being brought to the beach and firmly believe that it could potentially become a great tourist activity. I would like to thank Council Officials Ciara Lowe Disability Liaison Officer and Nikki Mc Alinden Cross Border Minority Sports Development Officer on their efforts to bring Beach Volleyball to Cranfield and I hope that it can generate enough interest to warrant running a similar scheme next year.”

Northern Ireland Volleyball Development Officer Nick Wright Said “It is great to see the sport of volleyball being offered to young people in the Newry and Mourne area. Over the past few years I have seen Volleyball and Beach Volleyball spreading throughout Northern Ireland and this is giving more young people the opportunity to play our wonderful, fast paced team sport which can be played by virtually anyone and with very little previous experience”.

Project Officer Nikki Mc Alinden would like to thank the PSNI Community Safety Unit based at the Ardmore Station Newry, for funding the transport costs of bring the groups involved together and for their involvement in the pre tournament warm ups sessions.
