European Championship in Sitting Volleyball.
Greetings to you all from the European Championships in Nyiregyhaza 2007. Some of you may have missed the earlier report, you can also follow the link on www.ecvd.eu to check on progress.
DAY 1. The Great Britain squad will go into tomorrow's games against host's Hungary and World champions Bosnia in a positive frame of mind and will look to show the same spirit that helped the commendable performance against Latvia.
DAY 2. In the afternoon match against reigning world champions Bosnia, Great Britain raised the level, keen to shake off the morning’s disappointment with a strong display. The team played with renewed vigour and crucially began playing combinations – something that is so key to success within Sitting Volleyball. The score was a credible (25-4, 25-15, 25-10), and it must be noted that the Bosnian team showed they are worthy champions by playing with class and understanding of the journey that Great Britain is on towards the 2012 Paralympics. The whole of the Great Britain squad and staff were appreciative of this and showed their thanks once the game was finished.
DAY 3
DAY 4
DAY 5 The squad return to England tomorrow with their heads held high, knowing they are on the right track towards building a strong squad over the coming months, and looking ahead to next season with great expectations. Our thanks from all the squad go to our fantastic Coach Jose Banfi, our Team Doctor Jamie Jun Ming Zhang, and Team Manager Sarah Pegg. Who have all shown exceptional dedication. I'm off to the closing ceremony! Yours in Sport Robbie robert.x.barrett@jpmorgan.com You will also see from the tournament website that Richard Whitehead was named "Best Blocker" for the tournament. A fantastic individual acheivement at our first Euro Champs. Greg Brown gregoryrbrown@yahoo.se

My View of the Beach Finals.
The National Beach Finals at Brighton drew quite a bit of media attention for the final stages of the event. Half a dozen camera crews turned up and a regular visitor to these events informed me that this was probably the most they had ever seen at a national event before. The largest team (two video cameras, two sound men, an interviewer, a stills camera and a young lad) were filming for SKY TV. They are the boy's in the blue Nivea shirts and they appear in lots of other people's coverage of the event as well.

Volleyball UK TV Channel
Download figures for the National Beach Final videos have been hitting record levels, way past the limit set by my ISP. To date we have been using an unlimited server to provide the video service, but this has a number of limits, file size, slow downloads and we are slowly out growing it. To try and solve this and to move the process forward to a full screen TV or HD quality service in the future, we have created a new online TV channel on the Veoh TV system (www.veoh.com) call "Volleyball UK" at: http://www.veoh.com/channels/volleyballuk This has a number of advantages for the future, we can upload much larger files, whole matches, the back catalogue and in the near future move to full screen quality. One advantage for viewers, is that it can also background download, on request or you can subscribe to the channel for any new video to be automatically downloaded for you. No more buffering etc and we are not restricted to the number of simultaneous downloads. On the web page you can view our videos at a low resolution, but you will need to download them to see them at the current 1mbps quality etc. For this you will also need to download and install the free Veoh Beta video browser that turns online video into Internet Television, it's very similar to the Windows Media program. Once installed, you can also watch streaming video from major television networks such as the Discovery Channel, MTV, Paramount, Cycling TV, Food & Drink TV, Travel Channel etc and other UK volleyball clubs are already using the system. [A user name is also required (which you only need to enter once)]. This may sound a bit OTT just to view a video but hopefully it will lead to a much better service. I can now store more matches online, so as a bonus feature, this is the only place you can watch last weekends women's semi-final match between Johns / Boulton and the local Brighton team of Czinegeova / Nemcova.
Volleyball in High Definition Another aim for the future is to have some short video's in High Definition (excellent on a normal computer screen), for whole matches this is not going to happen until UK homes have at least a 20 mbps optical fibre internet connection. However parts of the world are already fibred and hence some volleyball HD type content is already available via the Veoh internet TV system.
![]() For example you can watch part of the opening ceremony from the 2006 Volleyball world championships in Japan, well worth downloading to see the quality. Click on the above image to view / download or www.veoh.com/videos/e155073NFZdk8TA PS: If anyone has found any other HD type volleyball content on line, could you please let me know. Boys Youth World Championships 2007
Iran vaulted into the volleyball history books to become the new 2007 Boys’ Youth World Champion for the first time ever beating China 3:2 (21-25, 25-22, 26-24, 31-29, 15-7) in a spectacular all Asian final which lasted 130 minutes at the Gimnasio de Usos Multiples in the Mexican city of Tijuana on Sunday. The second place for China is the best ever for the country in this FIVB event. Earlier on Sunday in Tijuana hall, France grabbed the bronze medal after defeating Argentina 3:1 (25-20, 18-25, 26-24, 27-25) in almost two hours. The young European Champions emerged victorious to close off what has been for this new generation of French players an amazing World Championship. Argentine Facundo Conte was Best Scorer of the match with 30 points, whilst French Guillaume Quesque booked 21 points. This was the first time ever for France to step into the Top Four and climb the podium. For Argentina it is a repetitive fourth place as they lost the bronze medal in 2005 to Italy. "I'm very proud of my players", stated French head coach Jocelyn Trillon, "It was a good fight during the whole match against a team like Argentina. This is my first time coaching the national team and to win the European Championship and now the bronze medal here is something I will never forget." Poland beat Belgium 3:1 for the fifth spot. Maciej Krzywiecki led the winners with 17 points. The Belgians however can be more than satisfied with their surprising place in the ‘Elite Eight’ of the world as this was their first-time participation in a Youth World Championship. Russia, defending two-time world champion and pre-tournament favourite, will return home with ninth place. The Russians prevailed 3:1 over the Germans with Ruslan Moskin being the Best Scorer of the match adding 28 points for his team.
