Just to let you know Richmond Volleyball are running the following events for 2008.

Sat 24th & 25th May 2008 - National Level 1 Coaching Course – Richmond (London) Details: coaching level 1

This is the basic national introductory coaching award to assist in the introduction of volleyball to a group of inexperienced adults or children in a safe, controlled and enjoyable manner. This course is mainly practical with a 45 min exam. Duration of the course is 16 hours. Candidates must be 16 or over with some playing experience.

This is a very popular course and fills up quickly. Spaces are limited to the first 20 applicants. We strongly recommend that you book places VERY early to avoid disappointment.

Sat 4th, 5th, & 6th May 2008 - National Level 2 Coaching Course – Richmond (London). Details: coaching level 2

The Level II award is a minimum of 24 hours and it prepares the coach who has some experience of competitive volleyball to plan, organise, and deliver a series of volleyball sessions in a safe and enjoyable manner to a group of adults or children.

The course focuses on the development of basic tactics for the 6-a-side game and progresses the basic techniques and skills that were introduced at level I, with some introduction of specialist roles. Opportunities are provided for candidates to further extend their experience of practical coaching in a group setting and assessment is completed by a formal written examination.

This is a very popular course and fills up quickly. Spaces are limited to the first 20 applicants. We strongly recommend that you book places VERY early to avoid disappointment. To qualify for this course you must have a Level 1 Volleyball England coaching qualification.

What do you do when it gets to 28 - 28 and you know your flip over score board only goes to 30 all.

.... Hope the set ends within the next two points?

.... Restart the scoreboard at 0 - 0 ?

At Wessex's, the assistant scorer quietly goes and gets another scoreboard (one that goes beyond 30 - 30) and sets it up - just in case it's needed.

In the end, the second score board got quite a bit of use, at 37 - 35 to Wessex, it was by far the longest set this season in the EVA National League. The next longest (to date) being the Men's 3 East match between Cambridge v Dartford where they had a 30-32 score line. Full marks to the Wessex score table for being prepared, no prizes in guessing which score board they used for the next set. You can watch the whole 36 minute long set below or if you prefer, just the second half, as I had to split the file in to two.
