LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Professional Coach, Bristol

Dear All, we are looking to employ a part time professional coach for our senior men's and possibly our senior women's volleyball teams next year. We will also be offering volleyball scholarships to players. Is it possible to place an advertisement in any publication you may send out or send an advertisement to all the coaches who are currently listed on your books? It would be much appreciated if you could email me any list you may have or I could send you the advertisements for sending out. Failing that can you please advise us the best way to attract top coaches to coach our teams. We understand our rates of pay are the best in the South West.

Regards

Czech Team Looking for Tournments.

I hope you don't mind me contacting you out of the Blue, My name is Nick Barker and I have been asked by a good friend of mine to research possible Volleyball Tournaments in Summer 2009. He is Assistant coach of a Volleyball team in the Czech republic and his team of Young Women aged 15-17 are looking to play a few games or better still a tournament in the UK!

I wonder if you could help us by giving details of any possible Team/Tournaments that would be willing to host the team, They of course expect to Pay all costs and expenses themselves, This would be a great opportunity for the team to broaden their experience and make new friends, I know very little about the sport so if you are able to help I will put you directly in touch With Martin Priybl (Assistant coach)

I look forward to your kind reply
Best regards

Oxford University Volleyball Club.

I'm writing on behalf of OUVC - Oxford University Volleyball Club. I notice that we don't seem to have a link on your list of clubs page... would it be possible to add one please? We're just about to launch a new version of our website (which will have a link to your very helpful site), and it'd be great if more people are able to find it..

The address for the site is www.ouvc.net (and it will remain the same when the new version is uploaded).

Epsom Volleyball Club.

Were recently nominated for an 'Enhanced Environment Grant' from Volleyball England, part of which they would like to offer to a Graduate University volleyball player (Nat. League Div. 1 or 2), who may be living / working in the Epsom area.

We would like someone keen to develop their own game as well as offering their skills in helping to develop the Junior section of the Club. Epsom play in the Surrey League, but Ashcome and Guildford are close, and would offer the opportunity for National League competition. Anyone who may be interested should contact Carole Rice:- crice@btinternet.com

Many thanks.

London Lynx Sitting Volleyball League.

The venue for the first Sitting Volleyball League is taking place at Leyton college. www.leyton.ac.uk. Our standing club has taken an initiative and is holding a volleyball league internally within the club on Sunday over 5 dates. This is the first of those. Our standing club brethern say they are looking forward to kicking our butt, so lets teach them how to play eh!

I would encourage every single member to make the most of this great opportunity and really help to make the tournament a great success, as I have said previously it can only lead to bigger and better things for the club and the sport as a whole.

League Record

In the last issues, we asked if any new the last time an EVA National League team achieved a 100% league season, i.e. not dropping a set.

Thanks for the feed back, it appears (from memory at least) that Britannia Music City achieved this in Division One on their way to winning the league and cup double in 1995-96.

Its quite an acheivement for a division one club to acheive, so the next question, does anyone have a record of this. Unfortunately the VE web site appears to have a typo in their list of past winners, listing London QKX as the winners for that season.

The club disbanded in 1997 and I wouldn't expect people to still have copies of the Volleyball World magazine from that year lying around. However I have been told that Paul Westhead, Steve Colpus or Vanessa Lucas may be able to confirm this one way or another, so if any of you guy's are reading this, can you then please drop us a line.

League update: Devon Women VC, already EVA Ladies Div 3S champions but can they make it the perfect season with one match to go.

VL Points System

People are always looking for alternative ways to promote volleyball development, Volleyball Lancashire have come up with a VL Points system for member clubs.

From the web site:
The VL Points system has been set up to encourage clubs to develop the sport in their local area. The incentive for all clubs is to turn development work into pounds off league fees. In April clubs will return a simple table of evidence (downloadable below) showing their development during the year.

Development is marked on a points scale and those points are then converted to pounds which are returned to the club up to a maximum of £70 (initial league deposit). Examples of awards are 2 points awarded for a schools training session, 1 point awarded for each article in the press. At season end there will also be a trophy awarded to the club showing the most development through these points.

You can read more at http://www.sportyrich2000.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/index.html

Volleyball Lancashire is the re-branded name of the Lancashire Volleyball Association. The key aims are, Promote school development, Publicise the sport countywide, Develop a flourishing league which supports performance pathways.
