Level 2 Coaching

Volleyball England is currently running a Level II Coaching Award Courses at Bournemouth University on 2nd, 3rd and May. If you have completed a Level I Coaching course and would like to take the next step towards becoming a more qualified coach, then this could be a big opportunity! We are able to offer candidates a Bursary from the National Skills Academy for Sport and Active Leisure for candidates for 66% of the actual courses costs bringing the fee for the qualification to just £50! Please distribute this e-mail to coaches in the club and expressions of interest will be followed in order to access the Bursary. At this stage we need names and not the course fees as soon as possible.

Course Descriptor

The Level II award is a minimum of 24 hours and it prepares the coach who has some experience of competitive volleyball to plan, organise, and deliver a series of volleyball sessions in a safe and enjoyable manner to a group of adults or children. The course focuses on the development of basic tactics for the 6-a-side game and progresses the basic techniques and skills that were introduced at level I, with some introduction of specialist roles. Opportunities are provided for candidates to further extend their experience of practical coaching in a group setting and assessment is completed by a formal written examination.

If you are interested in this course please contact Jon Garrard by either email or phone immediately!

Southend VC Malta

We are a Volleyball Club on the island of Malta, affiliated to the Malta Volleyball Association (MVA) and currently competing in its Male Leagues. As from next season we will also be adding a female sector to our club, which will see us taking part in practically all League Categories organised by the MVA.

Given our situation we are thinking of organising two 4-day friendly tournaments in our country during the months of July and August 2009, for Senior Male and Female teams. Besides working hard on the organisation, we are also doing our best to keep all costs involved as low as possible so as to ensure a fun event for everyone.

We have been referred to you and your website by Mr. Chris Scott, and we are thus sending this email to see whether you could help us find teams that would be interested in receiving further information about these friendly tournaments. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Best regards

Play and Learn in Barcelona

PLAY AND LEARN IN BARCELONA

We found this email in the web of your club and presumed you are in charge or related to Volleyball as an educational tool for young people. Let us introduce our selves: we are Club Voleibol Barcelona, a Ladies Volleyball Club associated to FC Barcelona We are trying to establish contacts with English clubs in order to initiate a new educational experience for this summer:

PLAY & LEARN is a technical campus to basically improve volleyball skills.
In parallel, a programme of English courses for locals and exchanges with Junior English players have been established.

We are looking for clubs and / or lady players up to 16 (from 13 to 16 years) that would like to come to Barcelona from 6th July to 17th July for this Clinic or Technical Campus. Foreigner players will be hosted in family homes, following the usual way of life in Barcelona (Catalonia), enjoying a privileged experience abroad. Technical campus has a total cost of 440 Euros and includes volleyball training sessions (4h morning) , lunch and diverse activities (swimming pool, beach volley, BTT, etc…) until 17h from Monday to Friday. I would like to know if you may be interested in this proposal in order to reserve some places for your club.

NEWS ITEMS

Bristol Ladies Win National League Playoff

Bristol Ladies beat New Forest VC 3-1 (21-25, 25-14, 26-24, 25-9) to secure their place in next season's NVL. Nerves were clearly present during the first set, with the girls quiet and playing within themselves. This gave New Forest, who were playing to retain their NVL status, an opportunity to take the initiative and create a small lead, and take the 1st set.

A few choice words and a chance to reflect during the break saw Bristol come out with much more confidence and energy at the start of the 2nd set, with Ann-Kathrin Meier jump-serving Bristol into a 7-0 lead. The girls were now playing more to their potential and their attack and defence was proving to be far superior to anything New Forest could offer. This saw Bristol take the 2nd set convincingly by 11 points.

Nerves crept back in during the 3rd, and an improved display from New Forest meant that the set was extremely close with neither team able to create any sort of lead. In the end Bristol held it together to win 26-24.

With the cushion of a 1 set lead and having just won a very close set, confidence returned to the Bristol ladies and they started playing back near to their best. Attacking was decisive and defence solid. New Forest were not given a chance to establish themselves and a stunning 25-9 win gave Bristol the set, match, and place in the NVL next season.

This means Bristol VC will be offering both mens and ladies national league volleyball next season. To find out more please visit the BVC website www.bristolvolleyballclub.co.uk .

White Eagles

White Eagles accept the Developing Community Sports award from Councillor Rosemary Torrington

White Eagles' contribution to volleyball in south west London was recognised at the Wandsworth Sports Awards last week. The awards, which were based upon achievements in 2008, were presented during an evening event at the Wandsworth Civic Suite and volleyball featured highly. Not only did the U16 boys win the U18 Team of the Year award for their progress playing in the London League and their National U16 Cup win as Ernest Bevin, but Daniel Donegan was also presented with a cheque from Sports Aid by Olympic bronze medal rower, Matthew Wells. This money will assist Daniel with his travel, competition and equipment costs to allow him to realise his volleyball potential; one to watch for the future.

White Eagles was also represented in two nominations for Outstanding Team Performance at the 2008 London Youth Games. Both the boys and girls from Wandsworth, many of whom were introduced to volleyball by White Eagles and continue to play for the club, reached their finals but the girls took the trophy, as they did at in the 2008 games.

To top off a successful evening, White Eagles was then awarded the trophy for Developing Community Sport. Chairman David Jenkinson commented "This award is the product of many years work with Wandsworth Sports Development and the community of Wandsworth. It would not have been possible without their support and particularly the support of Ernest Bevin College and Graveney School where our Junior Programmes are based".
