New Forest Volleyball Club

The New Forest Volleyball Club is situated on the outskirts of Southampton in Dibden. We are looking for both experienced and college/university players to join our exciting men's and women's teams in Division 3 West. The club has high expectations and fantastic coaches in place so players of all standards can enhance their game.

I do not understand how they can claim Ponds Forge is an International venue, no working scoreboard and lighting that looks like they aren't replacing bulbs as an economy drive. The spectators were better lit than the court. On the plus side the food was excellent as were the staff.

Brighton Beach Fest 2's and 4's

Volleyball England Beach Fest Event at NIVEA SUN Yellowave, Brighton, August 15th and 16th 2009, teams entering play in two tournaments – a doubles tournament on the Saturday followed by a mixed fours on the Sunday. Teams enter as a pair then get allocated into a mixed fours team during the Saturday evening BBQ. Saturday offers prize money up for grabs, followed by the Sunday 4's - a more social occasion. Teams entering must be available to play in both days events.

Entry costs £25/person and includes both competitions and a BBQ dinner on the Saturday night. There are limited spaces. To enter call us with team names and payment details (debit or credit card). Contact: info@yellowave.co.uk, www.yellowave.co.uk 

Entry fee includes full BBQ plate of Jumbo free range pork sausage in a half baguette, Monkfish and salmon kebab, 3 seasonal salads, Corn on the cob, (Veggie option available) 

Timings:

Saturday: Doubles Tournament - 10am-5pm / Followed by BBQ and Sunday Draw (5-7pm) / Sunday: Mixed Fours Tournament - 10am – 4pm

So, get signed up and get ready for some great beach volleyball, live match commentary, free give aways and of course lots of Brighton sunshine!

A good showing by local teams and players in this years end of season Exeter Challenge events, the men's event once again went to Torexe who were able to add to their 2008 title. Second place went to Kernow, Team Exeter finished in third, just ahead of Taunton in fourth, Full results at: www.exeterchallenge.com and you can watch the final again via our video page.

One extra point in the ladies semi-final and it would have been an all Torexe final, although losing to Maverick's in one of the early rounds, Torexe Queens took revenge in the final to retain the event title. Torexe Aces improved on their 2008 finish by taking third place.

We don't have a "spirit of the tournament" teams award but if we did it would have gone to the Wiltshire Mavericks U18 team, the team delighted the spectators with their play throughout the day and were clearly the team to beat. The team included two division one players (Wessex & Polonia) and the previous weekend they had been competing in the National U18 Finals at Loughborough (losing to Tameside in the final).  Full results for the ladies event at www.exeterladieschallenge.com and you can watch the video on our video page.

Ulster Volleyball honored

One of only eleven Queen's Awards for Enterprise to Northern Ireland people this year has been made to former captain and NI Head Coach Gerry Ford. Gerry is Chief Exec of Advantage NI and promotes growth of business enterprise and entrepreneurial skills in attitudes particularly for young people, people with disabilities and people in deprived areas throughout NI. Gerry keeps involved with Volleyball here as sponsor to VCQUB and as a cornerstone of tournament veterans Team Zimmer. Many of us owe Gerry a lot for his years in volleyball from University Ulster Coleraine, Foyle Falcons, QUB and Team Reebok. Many congratulations Gerry
