The Volleyball Coaching Bible
 |
If you are like me, looking to develop your coaching skills and to date, been disappointed in the quality of available coaching books. Then the Volleyball Coaching Bible may be the book for you. As well as covering the various volleyball skills and drills (as do most books), it gives various examples of coaching priorities, principles and responsibilities, as well as establishing and setting goals.
|
| The section on Marketing and promoting your volleyball program, will give you a different out look on the game as a business venture but the area of the book which sets this book apart from the norm for me, is the chapter on team tactics, offence and defense systems.
The book also covers team evaluating, collecting and using static's for evaluating your teams performance and efficiency. The book is compiled with each chapter written by a difference coach (24 in all), so you also have a good cross section of views and coaching skills.

As with most available coaching books in the UK, it's written for the North American market and hence some of the chapters have not been updated for the international market. Hence there is a mix of measurements (m / ft), teams, leagues and coaches referred too which we have never heard off and a number of items refer to the old side out scoring method and associated rules. [I believe a number of USA based leagues did not change to RPS at the same time as the rest of the world]. |
Overall these are minor points, to what is a good all round book and one which I will be using to take my coaching to the next level and I full agree with the book summary on the back cover. "Each time you open this book you'll learn something new and useful for the next practice".

The book is by Human Kinetics and is priced at £ 12.68 pounds and is available from our on-line volleyball book store.
