I walked to the diner next to the beach stadium. It was a most excellent example of a typical U.S. diner with every conceivable foodstuff of high cholesterol content imaginable and coffee on tap until you had the shakes. I was in heaven. I also noticed that for the first time on the trip I had
relaxed, mainly because I was away from the girls. I ordered the works, talked with the old waitresses about the forthcoming tournament, parted with some ludicrously small amount of money and headed out into the early morning Florida sun. I walked to the tournament site and looked around, I still had a couple of hours to kill before meeting the team. I ended up sat in the FIVB event press box, courtesy of a wheeze I used to
    pull at accreditation.

Hello, I'm the Editor of Volleyball News magazine, England. Did you get my fax?  The line if delivered with confidence and an air of  I'm just off to
interview Karch' was a winner. I always got my press pass. Sat by centre court watching the players warm-up it was difficult to imagine how things could have been any better. With that thought still washing through my mind I turned to look at the man who had just sat down at my table.

Hi! said the man, smiling as he put an ice cold beer down in front of me. I'm Sinjin, you the Speedo rep? he enquired. I knew it was Sinjin Smith, beach volleyball legend. I had hero worshipped the guy for the last ten years, but felt it would be rude to say duuh! I know who your are! or slightly un-cool to leap up and run around the press box like an over-excited kid shouting it's Sinjin! it's Sinjin! I opted for looking world tour wise, sat in my Speedo sponsored T-shirt, shorts and cap. Hi Sinjin. No I'm not the Speedo rep, I'm Simon Golding, the England women's coach, I replied. Oh OK! he mumbled. With that he picked up my untouched ice cold beer and wandered off.
